A few weeks back, we reported that BlackBerry has slammed a lawsuit on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram over patent infringements related to its BlackBerry Messenger platform.
This suit has barely taken off that Blackberry is Snapchat over digital messaging patents it’s supposedly infringed on. These patents are owned by BlackBerry and were used to help create the company’s once-iconic BBM messaging service.
A BlackBerry spokesperson said: “BlackBerry has a well-earned reputation for protecting and securing our customers’ data and privacy. For more than a year we have been working to establish a dialogue with Snap as we believe there are far more opportunities for partnership than disagreement. While we continue to hold this door open, we also have a strong claim that Snap infringed on our intellectual property, harmed our shareholders, and we have an obligation to pursue appropriate legal remedies.”
Snap Inc. has yet to comment on the matter.
We are wondering if this is the strategy Blackberry wants to adopt in bouncing back after WhatsApp and Snapchat leapfrogged the once popular app.
